Buying Lingerie Step 3.0: Lingerie Types
For all body types, the general rules are as follows:
- Think about what your – or your woman’s – best assets are. Choose something that will draw attention to and enhance that feature, be it the breasts, bottom, legs, tummy or shoulders.
- Nothing should cling to parts the wearer would prefer were hidden. Be sure to keep fabric loose and flowing, so it enhances curves but doesn’t stick to them.
- Robes are great! They help a woman feel comfortable, yet still have a sexy appeal. Choose sexy and sensual fabrics such as silk or satin or a nice lace.
- Dark colors are slimming, while light colors draw attention to potential bulges. Think black, dark blue or purple, but not a hot fire red!
- Choose sensual fabrics.
- Short women can gain length by having slits in the sides of gowns and negligees.
- Body stockings are perfect for all women of all body types. They allow a woman hide imperfections, even in sheer fabric.
Get the lingo right.
There are so many types of lingerie, it can be kind of overwhelming as to what style to choose. Here are some of the basics, so you know the lingo before you shop.
Camisole (aka cami) This is a short, loose fitting top that fits to the waist. It can be worn like a slip underneath a wool sweater, an open jacket, or just as it is with a pair of matching panties. |
Chemises These are short nightgowns that are usually made out of a fairly light material, something frilly and fun. |
Baby Doll This is really a short nightgown that flirts at the top of the hip. It begins with a clasp or a knot at the bust, and the rest of it floats away from the body. Usually, a baby doll is sold with a panty. |
Teddy A teddy is similar to a one-piece bathing suit. It is a combination of underwear and a short top. |
Bustier These are well fitting tops that are fastened at the back and accentuate the bust. |
Corsets Similar to a bustier but tighter and stronger. It has boning that goes over the bodice and is laced or hooked in the back. Corsets create an hourglass figure, but can be laced loosely for a regular top. |
Kimonos These are robes that are usually worn over revealing types of lingerie. A kimono is used to make the girl feel more comfortable, when she’s walking around with hardly anything on and would want something to cover herself up. |
Thongs Anyone who has watched a teen singer in her music video knows what a thong is. A thong is similar to a G-String but it has a little more fabric going up the back, unlike a G-String, which has just that, a string. |
Boy Shorts These are tiny shorts that women wear as underwear. They are usually lacy and very cute. If you want to get turned on when your girlfriend wears her lingerie, this would definitely top the list, in a sweet and racy kinda way! |
Cincher This is very similar to a bustier or corset. This however does not cover the breasts. It does exactly what it says it does. It cinches /squeezes the waste to create that hour glass figure. |
Body Stockings Full body cover, but usually is sheer. These can come in a variety of colors, and textures. Most often they have the crotch open, which is helpful. Make sure to get good fabric because both you and her will be rubbing against it. These help to cover any flaws a woman may perceive she has. |
